What is Time and a Half? #

Time and a half is the overtime pay rate equal to 1.5× your regular hourly wage. Under the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), most non-exempt employees must receive time-and-a-half for every hour worked over 40 in a workweek.

Time and a Half Formula #

          OT Rate = Regular Rate × 1.5

          OT Pay = OT Hours × OT Rate

Quick Example #

If your regular rate is $20/hr and you work 5 hours of overtime:

OT Rate = $20 × 1.5 = $30/hr
OT Pay = 5 hrs × $30 = $150
Regular Pay = 40 hrs × $20 = $800
Total Gross = $950
